Project: Premiair

Our client approached DRS with an idea to create a device which would simplify a method of treatment for cystic fibrosis.
The equipment currently used by children with the condition requires supervision by parents, and treatment can be awkward to undertake.

Concept design
The concept was to make an aesthetically pleasing and easy to use device, which would be considered a ‘cool gadget’ by the younger members of the prospective target market.

3D CAD
Fully engineered CAD models were then created using the latest software.

Electronics & Prototyping
6 months of work was required to develop the integral electronics and firmware which would allow all of the design features to function.

The product needed to be re-programmable, reliable, sterile, easy to use, and portable.

Marketing and results
Following field trials from 20 units, the design was finalised for commercialisation. Parents of children who used the device provided overwhelmingly positive feedback, and some clinics reported increased lung function from patients as a possible result of using the PremiAir.
